New Albany Company Drills For Water
As reported in the Reporting Project, The New Albany Company bought 106 acres from Granville Trustee Dan VanNess along Racoon Valley Road with the express purpose of drilling test wells for water extraction. The New Albany Company and the City of New Albany asked Licking County officials for permits to drill wells and pump millions of gallons of water per day from Granville Township to the city of New Albany, purportedly in support of the nearby Intel mega project.
The wells provide drinking water for the village of Granville and the village of Alexandria.
“We’re going to do everything we can do to stop this, within the law, and everything we can do to establish a regional water and sewer partnership,” said Granville Mayor Melissa Hartfield, referring to the recent conversations by Granville, Liberty, Monroe and St. Albans townships, the city of Johnstown and villages of Alexandria and Granville about establishing a regional partnership for water and sewer service. As reported in the Reporting Project.
In addition to the local sale of land from Granville Township trustee Dan VanNess, in April the Southwest Licking COmmunity Water and Sewer District (SWLCWSD) bought approximately 100 acres in St. Albans Township for the potential construction of a water and wastewater treatment facilities. The effluent, or waste water and sewage, from that plant would flow into the Raccoon Creek and same acquifer that Granville & Alexandria draws their drinking water.
